Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Joint Legal Custody & Child Support

My ex B/F and I recently split up. We decided on Joint Legal Custody (with him having primary physical custody) . We both live in NY State but in different towns. I have established visitation rights. My question is, Will I have to pay Child Support even with Joint Legal Custody? It should be known that he says he does not want me to pay support.

Re: Joint Legal Custody & Child Support

Normally an individual would have to pay support even with joint legal custody. The individual that has physical custody of the child would receive support.

That being said, upon consent an individual may opt out from paying support. So if your ex consents that you should not have to pay support you would be able to avoid child support payments.
