Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Juvenile record

My wife and I are filing for custody of my sister. I am 28 years old and I have a (sealed) juvenile record that may interfere with the custody . Can the court use my juvenile record against me? Any advice?

Re: Juvenile record

The sealed record should remain sealed and not affect your petition. However, everything tends to be fair game in determining "best interests." In any event, assuming that your parents are not in the picture, what matters is whether you best able to care and provide for your sister. Feel free to call my office to discuss this further.
