Juvenile records incorrect/interferring with military enlistment

My son was charged with a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge while he was on PINS for truancy in 2002. He was 13. He spent the following three and 1/2 years in detention facilities because his placement kept getting extended, as he was not participating in the programs. He finally did what he was supposed to do, received his GED and is now trying to enlist in the military. We were honest with the military about his juvenile records and they said it would not be a problem, but when they got the background check back, it was not a criminal mischief charge-- it stated Assault on parents, and Arson. He never assaulted us. (we stated that he pushed me- his mother) and that he was smoking cigarettes in his room and had burned a hole in his mattress. Family Court recorded these as the charges instead of the criminal mischief. He will not be able to enlist with these charges, but they would waive the criminal mischief charge. How do I fix these records so he can enlist? It has to be something I can do, as he cannot, nor can I afford an attorney. Thanks for your help!
