Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Laws of Child Abandonment

I have a 9 mo. old son. His father left me when I found out I was pregnant. Is there anyway that I can go after him for child support without having to go through a custody hearing? He has wanted nothing to do with me or my son sense I found out I was pregnant.

Re: Laws of Child Abandonment

You are indeed entitled to support. You need to consult a lawyer right away to discuss your rights and options.

Yes. You have de facto custody. Assuming his name is on the birth certificate you can seek child support.
