Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Do I need a lawyer

My daughters father lives in FLorida and as of right now I am taking him to court and have a court date next month for child support. I have never taken his parental rights away. He chose in the past 8 months of her life not to be in it. Now that I am taking him to court, he keeps harrassing me with a lawyer. Do I need a lawyer to defend? myself? He also told me that as his parental right he has the right to take her for a month. Is that true? He has never met her or seen her. He does not know anything about parenting. I am afraid and confused. Please help.

Re: Do I need a lawyer

The father does not have an absolute to a one month visit.

I believe that under the circumstances you should be represented and that the Court be asked to appoint a legal guardian for the child.
