Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Leaving

This question is pretty much just like the ''moving out'' question, but what about in New York? Can I just leave, with out my mom being able to do anything about it? Such as pressing charges on the people I move in with. And if the person I do move in with, is over 18, but still lives with their parents, would my parents be able to press charges on their parents??? PLEASE REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!

Re: Leaving

It is suggested that if you are under age 18 and your parents expect to have control over you and your life for sometime into the future, that you go to Court and file an Emancipation Petition or Otherwise seek the Court's protection and authority to say where and with whom you may live.

You WANT TO AVOID dragging other people into direct conflict with your parents and your family business, in way that is inappropriate.

AND, It is inappropriate to simply walk out without notice, information or conversation with your parents. They will remain responsible for you, and your living circumstances, notwithstanding your desire to be rid of them.

GO TO COURT FIRST!

GOOD LUCK,
