Re: what's the legal age a child can be asked to leave home.

A parent is legally responsible for the food, clothing, shelter, and education of a child until the age of 18. This is the same for both boys and girls.

Of course, a parent may 'agree' to have a child live in the home of a friend or relative (if that home is reasonably safe). This is a very common and appropriate alternative when there are issues that make continued residence with the parent 'complicated'.

While many children do move out before they reach the age of 18, they become at risk for being placed in an orphanage or foster care if discovered.
