Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Can this really be legal

My boyfriend was ordered to turn over a vehicle that is in my name only to his ex-wife. I have to make the paymets on it while she drives it and then sign over the title at the end of the loan.

Thankyou

Re: Can this really be legal

Generally, No.

However, if the Court found that the funds used to purchase the auto came from your boy friend's or his wife's assets, then the Court can demand that He attempt to recover the asset that has been "converted;" or contributed to the value of your property.

But, if you have not be made a party to the action ( and the Court does not have jurisdiction over you); or if you owe money to the Note Holder of the auto ( ie., the person you are paying, and the Holder is not your boyfriend); and you refuse to sign the car over, it is unlikely the Court would have the authority to take the car away from you.
