Legal Question in Family Law in New York
How does legal custody impact what the custodial parent can/cannot do when there is a disagreement? If there is a disagreement, how is this resolved in court? Is there a hearing on the issues of disagreement, and if so, how long does this take? Or, instead, is it more like a visitation order violation, which is a lot more clear cut?

This should be spelled out in the custody agreement. If not, depending on the particular circumstances, the parent with legal custody should decide the matter. You didn't provide details on the specific disagreement. However, if it relates to school or religion, the parent with legal custody determines the issue.
