Re: Legal fees

It depends on whether you settle or whether you go to trial.

If you settle - [i.e., an UNCONTESTED DIVORCE], then you will pay what you agree to.

If you go to trial, then the Court will take into consideration the relative financial needs and financial abilities of both parties.

You do not mention assets / liabilities/ or net worth. These are relevant considerations.

I can tell you this - the legal fees for both of you will be a lot less if you settle. That means that you may have to compromise.

Understand?

Hope this helps.

Re: Legal fees

The payment of legal fees is generally within the discression of the court. When the parties can show a significant difference in income that would make it hard for one party to afford the same caliber of counsel as the other, the court will often try to equalize the situation by ordering the monied spouse to pay all or a portion of the other's legal fees.
