Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Legal responsibilities for parents
What is the age where parents are no longer legally responsible for a child? We have an 18 year old and need to know when we can legally ''throw him out.''

Re: Legal responsibilities for parents
This pretty much works on a sliding scale. While for most purposes an 18 year old child is an adult, the child will be considered to be less than an adult by the court if he is arrested and needs legal counsel.
While you could more than likely have your child leave now, you could be responsible for legal fees should he be arrested.

Is your child in school full-time?
If yes, then your child will not be considered emancipated, and you will still be liable for this child.
