Legal Question in Family Law in New York

legal rights

My exbf and I have 2 children together. Neither has filed any petitions (yet) as we have agreed on an amount and he has been paying it faithfully. I am now dating a man who is really important to me. My ex is forbidding me to let our children meet my new bf. I understand the importance of not having a parade of men in their lives, but what rights does he have as far as me introducing them and what are my rights? We have no court orders as to custody or child support.

Re: legal rights

Since you have no court orders, there is nothing dictating who you should or should not expose your children to.

Re: legal rights

He cannot keep you from introducing your kids to your new fellow. IF he tries to interfere. Take him to family court and he may lose his rights to his kids. Do not give in on this if the guy you are seeing is a good guy. Otherwise your ex will try to control your life forever. Also do not let him put the kids inbetween you and do not let him poison their opinion of him.

He either grows up on his own, or you use the court to help him get there. Either way, it's time.

Good luck.
