Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Legalization of separtion agreement in NYC court system
my wife and me made a separation agreement in february 2000.
Now are daughter is applying to the colleges. Is our agreement still legal, especially in NY state? If it is not
legal now, can we make it legal by filing in the court ?
If it is not legal now and if we must renew it, should we anyway file it in the court to make it legal ? What is the
procedure to file it in the court in NYC and what form(s) we need to use ?
Thank you in advance,

Re: Legalization of separtion agreement in NYC court system
It would be necessary for a lawyer to review your documents to give you a proper answer to your question. However, generally, the separation agreement will be valid if all the parts of it are legal and fair. To enforce the agreement, you do not need to have it filed. It is only necessary to file the agreement if you want to use that filing as the basis for a divorce.
