Legal Question in Family Law in New York
liability for a minor
I would like to know the New York State age for a minor. I have a son who is 18. Can I be held liable for his actions?

If he lives with you and is not independent, there is some authority in the law that you are responsible for his actions, if he is not "emancipated". He has passed the legal age of majority (17) and it depends on the circumstances....if he drives your car, of course you are responsible and your insurance better cover people under 25 in New York StateSPECIFICALLY. If he has committed a crime or offense, no, he stands on his own at this point. Medical coverage depends on the policy. If he is in school, full time, and living with you, it is a different situation than if he is emancipated and self sufficient and not in school full time.
