Legal Question in Family Law in New York

''In Limbo''

I am living apart from my wife for over 10 years now. I live with another woman with whom I have a child.Child support is taken directly from my check weekly. One of our children lives with me, the other with my wife. I had bad I.R.S. problems now that I have solved, so now I wish to marry this other woman. My wife says she will contest a divorce or a legal separation. I don't have much money so I don't know what to do.It is on file w/the family court of us living apart for so long. What is my next step to ending this marriage that is cost efficent? Please Help

Re: ''In Limbo''

The living apart and not having relations

could constitute grounds for divorce

It is clearly enough to draft and serve a

complaint

Your wife could contest or could

countersue. If she countersues, you

may settle the finances and let her

take the divorce

Your best bet is to hire a lawyer and

start the divorce You may get a lot

farther than you think
