Legal Question in Family Law in New York

How much longer must I wait for a divorce?

Two years ago I signed divorce papers and still haven't seen the judge yet to finalize the divorce. How much longer do I have to wait or do I have to do the paper work all over again. (I married an immergrant three years ago only to find out after I married him so that's I'm divorcing him) Also how long do I have to wait if I ever want to remarry again?

Re: How much longer must I wait for a divorce?

Something is not right. This is too long for an uncontested divorce.

Suggest you obtain a second opinion from an experienced matrimonial attorney.

I practice in NYC and Long Island.

If this is an uncontested divorce then perhaps it is to long. You should contact your attorney for an explanation, if you didnt retain an attorney then now is the time. You may contact my office to set up a consultation @718-834-0087.

Re: How much longer must I wait for a divorce?

An uncontested divorce in New York City often takes as little as 90 days. 120 days is a long time for an uncontested divorce.

HOWEVER, in an uncontested divorce, you will not see the judge. You are notified by mail when the divorce becomes final. You have not communicated very much about your case, but the first thing I recommend is that you go to the county courthouse and check on the case. The clerk may inform you the divorce has already been granted and is final or you may find out what needs to be done. You are welcome to a consultation at no fee at my offices at 42 west 44th st, ny,ny please call for an appointment first - 646-591-5786.
