Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am wondering what the difference is between getting a divorce by means of a lawyer vs. a mediator. The Pros and Cons of each. Please advise..thank you,.

Apples and oranges.

A mediator helps the parties forge an agreement. A mediator does not represent a party nor may appear in Court. The lawyer represents the parties before a court. You can have a lawyer and go to mediation.

Personally, if you have the right lawyers (both sides) you don't need mediation.
