Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am married to a man who has'nt lived with me for my entire marriage of 20mths, I am looking to get a divorce and want to know if I am entitled to his assets. He has not given me any money the entire time we have been married. I am currently unemployed and have no $ to divorce him, can an attorney help me and charge him for the fees? Please help me I am desperate at this time.

You are entitled to equitable distribution of any marital assets during the 20 months of marriage. If you have no money, you may qualify for a free attorney throught the local bar association.
