Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Hi. my name is Michael and I am 20 years old. ever since 2009 when I was 19 my parents kicked me out of the house and did not help me in any way. the law in ny state, states that the parents are legally responsible for the child until the age of 21. sure they have the right to kick me out, BUT, they should be paying me for child support payments correct? i turn 21 in December and I wanted to know this question.

should my parents pay child support payments especially if I am in college?

can they pay child support for 2009 or pay for my college expenses that I had in 2009?

does the parent owe child support at all and if so does the parent owe from the past and until I turn 21?

In New York the legal age of emancipation when parents are no longer responsible is 18. So, you're out of luck on this one. Work hard, study hard and take out student loans. Good luck.

My comments are based on treating your question as a hypothetical. Accordingly, my comments could be substantially and materially different were I advised of all of the relevant facts and circumstances. My comments are by necessity general in nature, and should not be relied upon in taking or forgoing action in your circumstances without retaining an attorney. In order to fully explore your legal matter, you should meet with me or another attorney and bring to any such meeting all relevant documents and correspondence, and any other relevant facts.

I am not hired to be your attorney, and no attorney-client relationship exists between us, unless and until you enter into a written retainer agreement with me, tender the agreed amount for a retainer and it is accepted by me. I reserve the right to decline representation should circumstances change.
