Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My mom & dad have been married 22 yrs. My dad is not speaking to my mother at this point. No history of violence. My mom raised 3 children; 2 of which still live with them. She has also helped my father get his business off the ground & has been the secretary/receptionist for many years. He has stopped speaking to her for several months at a time in the past, explaining nothing. He then starts again & pretends things are normal. He refuses to go to counseling;my mother goes alone. My mom is thinking about divorce but does not believe this is the solution. At this point, they live in separate bedrooms. She tries speaking with him but he pretends she isn't there. He told my mom that she has to pay for her own food & gas. Is there anything legally she can do without divorce? They are both Christian and believe divorce is wrong. Thank you very much.
