Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Money

I was with a girl who lent me money to pay off some bills but we are not together anymore .I have been paying her monthly but shw wants me to sign a promisary note stating that i will pay her a certain amoutn a month .I have no problem with this but i asked her to include that she will return my belongings in the letter and she refused . Now she wants to take me to court . AM i at the wrong here ?What can i do

It depends on what you want to accomplish. Do you want to refuse to pay any more money until she returns your stuff? Do you want to pay back without a judgement? Do you want to sue her?

She can be sued/counter sued for conversion of your stuff. She can sue you for failure to make good on a debt. You can counter sue that the failure is a result of you trying to mitigate the conversion.

YOu will have to decide just how much you want to deal with.

Consult with counsel. It is cheaper than you think.
