Legal Question in Family Law in New York
THis morning my husband took all of his belongings from our home and moved out on me and our two boys. What are my rights? I gave up my career to stay home and raise our boys so I rely on him financially. We are living in a home we bought when we first got married. Is he still responsible to pay the mortgage and what is the spousal and child support laws in NY? I am still reeling from this unexpected abandonment and dont know what I need to do any legal help and advice is welcome.

You are likely entitled to at least immediate temporary support for you and the kids (if under 21). If you file for divorce (or even if he does), you may be entitled to spousal support, child support, and equitable distribution of everything you and he own. After you have calmed down and come to terms with what happened, consult an attorney as soon as you can.
You are entitled to child support, possibly spousal maintance and equitable distribution of all after acquired marital assets. This can only be accomplished by retaining a competent divorce attorney. A timid family friend attorney may not be sufficient to get all that you deserve under the law.
