If both a mother and father are excellent parents, is there any possibility that, during a divorce proceeding, one parent can discredit the other to gain full custody of the kids?

Do custody arrangements vary if one of the children is an infant?

Yes if there is verifiable evidence then it will certainly effect the decision. Yes an infant will be treated based on his/her needs given their age.
