Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Moving to another county in the state

I am engaged to a woman who has sole custody of her son. She lives in Fulton County and I in Suffolk. She wants to move to Suffolk to live with me with her son. The father of her son doesn't pay support, is going through criminal court right now for weapons and drug charges. He is a known dirtbag in his area. What should we do?

Re: Moving to another county in the state

What should you do, concerning WHAT?

THE MOTHER should Ask the father to give up all rights and obligations, so that you can adopt? Then you immediately begin adoption proceedings, in order to insure that YOU, are and remain the child's father?

If that is not the plan or question, then my personal and possibly offensive idea is that there should not be a marriage, until and unless your relationship with the child is clearly and firmly established, forevermore. Anything less, would be irresponsible and damaging to the child; and probably to your (proposed) marriage.

Good luck,
