Legal Question in Family Law in New York

moving out

My daughter father and i have been living together for 5yrs and we recently had a dispute. The house we live in right is his house and he asked me to leaave but i didn't have anywhere to go at the time so i asked him to give me some time which i requested in writing, I still haven't found a place and the time that i requested is up. He told me i could stay until i found a place but refuse to sign anything to that effect. If i stay there, will i be breaking any laws?

Re: moving out

At the end of the day, if it it is his home, he may seek to evict. However, you have a possessory interest in the premises and he must take legal steps to remove you. Unmarried partners do not have any legal or financial obligations to one another other than those explicitly agreed to among them. If you cannot find a new place or get him to agree to some arrrangement, you should probably meet with an attorney. If you get locked out, call the police.
