Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Naming a Child

I would like to hyphen my newborns last name with my boyfriends name. He is not the biological father though. I feel since the childs last name will still end in mine that I should have no problem with this. I want to know if the biological father can stop me from doing so.

Re: Naming a Child

A Natural Father CAN insist upon USE of his surname on his child's birth certificate; and on every other legal document, record, including but not limited to school records, church records, medical records, etc..

Even thinking about "picking" a surname for your child, for any reason; or Use of any surname (for your child) but YOUR "actual" legal surname or the natural father's surname, is looking for trouble.

Good luck,
