Legal Question in Family Law in New York

A parent with no assests, 72 and living in nursing home. Has POA & HCP, who is or will be responsible for funeral or any outstanding bills? Would it be the family, all whom are low income and on S.S.

Usually the nursing home has an arrangement with a local funeral director and they will take care of the cremation and if parent has no assets they just absorb the cost as a cost of doing business. I think they get reimbursed from New York.
