Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Past rent

Well about 8 or 9 years ago my parents split up... My father moved into an apartment next door... he failed to pay the rent and it built up over time.. The landlord did not persue the money from him but a few times after he left the apartment. Now my parents are divored and have been for a few years, my mother remarried to my stepfather. The landlord from next door is now trying to get the money from my mother... It is a rather large amount also... Is there anything that we can do to avoid having to make up for my fathers mistakes.. please get back to me, thank you

Re: Past rent

It depends if your mother lived in the apartment at the time, how long ago the rent accrued and how long ago she and your father moved out.
