Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Paternal Health History

I am 25 years old and have written a letter to my estranged father asking him for the family's medical history. He has not responded. Since I am not a minor, do I have any legal basis to petition him for that information? My fiance and I will be looking to have children in the next few years and I think this information is vital. Thank you so much. (He lives out of state.)

No, you do not have any right to get the information out of him. There is no statute, court precident or standing to allow you to force him to release private, confidential information to you or anyone else. As a matter of fact, federal law specifically precludes you from getting the information without your father's voluntary cooperation.
