Legal Question in Family Law in New York
paternity establishment
I am originally from New York, which is where my child was born. I recently moved to connecticut (last summer), but do not plan to stay (most likely not beyond lease which is up this summer), and would like to know if I should open a paternity establishment/child support case in connecticut or new york. The biological father of the child moved to florida before he was born and the only information I have on his location is his place of employment. I know that New York has a data locate service. Is there something similar in Connecticut, or can I open the case in New York?

Re: paternity establishment
Because the child was born in NY, you have a perfect right to avail yourself of NY institutions in this effort.
Since you are in CN, a simple telephone call to the Family Court or Planned Parenthood or a host of other resources will bring you the information on what is available.
I recommend you make long-range plans for your residence and make your choice on the basis of those plans. The state resources available to assist you in finding the father should not be the only issue in making your choice.
Good luck and you are welcome to a consultation for no fee.
