Legal Question in Family Law in New York

paternity establishment

I recieved a summons for a paternity hearing in mass.(used to live there) Can Mass. assume sole jurisdiction over the case? If so; does NY law allow me to dispute this? Am I compelled to go to the DNA testing center chosen by Mass. Dept. of Revenue; even though I live in another state? Can a decision be made by Mass. family court without my presence? If so; what are the ramifications? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Should you fail to participate, a child support order could be set based on the mother's estimation of your income. Moreover, should you fail to appear for a court date after being served notice, a default and contempt could be entered. What is importatnt at this time is to determine whether the Department is seeking arrearages (back support) and whether the child's mother is receiving any government services (financial assiatsnce, food stampts, healthcare, etc) for the child and whether DOR will look to recoup that money.
