Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I pay child support and I am relocating

I currently pay child support for two children, two separate moms, two separate orders. Both orders were issued by NYC Family Court. I am planning to relocate to another state and anticipate that my salary will be significantly less? Can I get the amount of support modified based on my new salary. Am I responsible for support for the time I am out of work looking for employment?

A voluntary reduction income is not a basis for a downward modification. If you lost your job as a result of unforseen circumstances, then you may and should seek a downward modification.

You would have to apply for a downward modification of child support. However, if you are taking a voluntary reduction in pay, you may not get the modification.
