Legal Question in Family Law in New York

paying child support, can't find mother or daughter

i have been paying my child support and can not locate my daughter. i have talked to her aunt but she would not tell me where they are. i know she has a good step-father and i don't want to intrude on there family. i would like a letter from the mother on how she is doing and some pictures. I have tried everything else, but as long i am paying child support i am owed some rights. what should i do from here? we were never married so there is no visitation order or anything like that, just the child support order.

Re: paying child support, can't find mother or daughter

You do not mention your daughter's age, nor where you have been all your life. There is no legal obligation to send you photos or a letter. However, you do have a right to petition for visitation.

Someone must know where your daughter lives; just follow where your check is going.

Paying child support doesn't entitle you to any rights. Being the biological father creates your rights. Further, not paying child support can create some very serious repurcussions, up to and including time in jail.

If you can't find your child, you can file a petition for visitation here in NY, if that is where you believe your daughter is.
