Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am currently paying child support of 1400 p/m. My child will be starting college fall of 2013 and her mother is expecting me to pay additional funds to cover tuition dues. My daughter will be living on campus. Can the payments be transfered from the mother and paid directly to the university? will I have to pay additional funds to cover college costs? What are my options? We reside in Jamaica NY

This depends on several factors. Do you have a signed child support stipulation, or child support order from the court? If so, these often address the issue of college tuition. If not, you may end up in court to fight this out. A judge will determine whether you can or should pay any additional amount. It may be best for you to work this out directly with the mother. And no, you cannot pay child support directly to the school. http://www.NYCDivorceCenter.com

If there is no stipulation or order requiring you to pay educational expenses then you do not have to pay them. If she files a petition for educational expenses then you should retain an attorney to assist you with that matter.
