Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am currently paying almost 25% of my income for child support on one child based on an agreement I made last year. Is there any possibility to get this lowered to the 17% required by law?

1. The child support standards act sets child support for one child at 17 1/2 percent of gross less fica.

A quick way to calculate this is to take 8% of your gross and then take 17 1/2 of that to determine your child support liability. There are tables and charts on line.

It might be that you are paying the correct amount.

2. The only way to change an agreement is to have a change in your circumstances. In other words you would have to be making less money. Then you can petition the court for a modification based upon a change of circumstances.
