Legal Question in Family Law in New York

payment of pension funds

I will be retiring soon and will be recieving a $40,000.annual pension. I was divorced in 1987 after 15yrs of marraige and was empoloyed for 9yrs at the time of divorce. I was ordered to pay based on the following formula.. Wifes share= pension x 3.9 over total years of pension contributions...How much would this be based on the above figures????

40,000. x 3.9 = 156,000. / 9 = 17,333.33

that's the "simple" math, based on what you've set forth.

But I sure don't claim to be knowing exactly what it means - - given what you've set forth.

Put otherwise, I suspect that there's at least one additonal 'aspect' to be factored in.
