Does the petitioner have to appear on show cause ordr

i have to appear as a respondant to a show cause order in a visitation battle, the other party was not order in to court even tho they started the motion. do they have to appear, and what happens if they do not. we did offer a comprimise that was turned down.

If a party does not appear on the return date to argue their own motion, one would hope and expect that the relief sought would be denied. You must appear to make sure that you are heard, however, whether or not you think the other party will show.
