Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Hello, I am planning on marrying my fiance later on this year. Yesterday, he received papers for child support for his son who will be 11 years old in May of this year. My Question is, after I marry my fiance, will I be liable for child support since I will become a stepmother? My concern is the mother of the child who recently only found a job. She has never had a stable job and has always lived on welfare. Are there ways where she cannot get any part of my financials? Also, my fiance has another child, not hers. If you can provide any suggestions or the law, I would really really appreciate it. We reside in New York.

Thanks in advance.

A. No.

Also, my fiance has another child, not hers. If you can provide any suggestions or the law, I would really really appreciate it.

A. I would suggest obtaining a pre-marital agreement. In the agreement you would set forth each individual's asset and income. The agreement would also address death issues (who gets what) and divorce issues.

Mike.
