Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Possession after divorce

After no contact for 7 years, my ex-husband has called me in reference to a piano that he left behind. It's an old piano worth very little. He acquired it while we were married and paid nothing for it. It was never written in the divorce settlement that it was his. Does he have any right to after all this time?

Re: Possession after divorce

It depends on the language in the stipulation of settlement. Most stipulations have language concerning each party releasing the other. Should your stipulation have that language, he waived his rights to the piano.
