Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Post Court problems
Basically, we went to court and finalized on November 2nd 2005. I am to pay $100 a month loan payment for which I am to receive a promissory note. One of the cars went to me, the other she was to have my name removed from the title and loan. Her lawyer was to draw up all papers. Six months later, I finally received the title on my car a month later than stipulated and not after constant pursuit on my part, but nothing else has been even started by her lawyer. My own lawyer has not been following up and all inquiries are stonewalled by my ex-wife and her lawyer. I am told since papers are not filed I am still legally married. I am told I am still legally responsible for her car and loan. My lawyer says I have to fork over at least $3000.00 to pursue any recourse even though the divorce has been decreed by a Judge in court. To say the least I lost my business during the process and I am broke. Is there any recourse.

Re: Post Court problems
Your lawyer cannot cease to reprresent you just because you are behind in your payments. And 3,000 is not a huge deficit!
1. report your lawyer to the ethics committee. You can find a form at 'unified court system of new york' on the internet.
2. You are welcome yto make an appointment with me to finish up your case. It would be about 1500 and you can make payments.
