Legal Question in Family Law in New York

potentially abusive Jehovahs Witness guardians

I am a 15 year old female living with my parents. They are Jehovah's Witnesses. In the past year, a secular issue had led my parents to force me to meet with church heads in our area. To my recent knowledge the reason my father physically mistreated me was due to advice given to him by these church heads. Besides that is the emotional mistreatment i am aware is not in my best interest, leading me to become mentally unstable. Among the physical abuses were throwing me against a wall, slapping me repeatedly in the face leaving light marks and causing swelling, pulling my hair and ears, and in addition throwing our family dog. I have adressed the deans of my school and they told me to consult with a lawyer concerning a status i could gain as an emancipated minor-where i could independently find a different home to live in while providing for myself by my own source of income. Is my situation grounds for this status of being an emancipated minor, and if so may i recieve information in my area regarding legal serivice?

Your situation is very serious. If your parents are abusing you it cannot be tolerated. You shouldn't concern yourself with emancipation proceedings you need immediate protection. If your parents are hurting you need to call the police and get them involved. Once there is a record of your treatment, the process will be handled by government agencies. Please protect yourself. Let someone with authority know before its too late and you get hurt or killed.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.

This is a serious situation. The best place to begin is with a report to the police and to the Child Protection Agency. They can get you out of the home more quickly than a private attorney.

You are welcome to contact and talk with me at any time for no fee. It is disgraceful when people use 'devotion to god' as a justification to oppress another person.

You are welcome to a consultation at no fee at my offices at 42 west 44th st., NY,NY. Please call for an appointment first. (646) 591-5786
