Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Power of Attorney for son who is mentally ill.

My son and I live in New York. I would like to be able to take care of any financial or health needs for my son who is 20 and diagnosed with a severe illness. Is the Power of Attorney the correct document and which one is the best one to use? Thank you.

Re: Power of Attorney for son who is mentally ill.

A power of attorney will only help you with financial issues. If your son is unable to make medical decisions for himself you will probably need to set up a guardianship which I can assist you with, if you like.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.
