Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am in the process of writing a book about a girl who gives birth to her child in her high school bathroom. Afterwards she places the baby in the toilet and attempts to flush it. (I know how horrible this sounds). The girl runs and the baby doesn't flush, survives and is healthy. The scene takes place in New York City. What would be the penalty for such a crime? How many years would this girl face?
