Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Property

Okay, soon I will be getting a large settlement. I know she is not entitle to it if she knew about it. I plan on moving out of state around March 06 to SC. I will be filing for a divorce in Nov 1, 05. Now, in NY I know that once you file for a divorce, you have to wait a year. Now I would like to purchase a house. When would it be safe to do this so that she can't touch it? Right after I file and she is served or a year later after the Judge hit's the hammer on the table? Thank you very much for your time.
