Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I put a loan against "my home" to pay off my husband's credit cards and car note which has not been satisfied. He is dead now, but before his death he left me, w/o repaying in full the debt and cutting me off from everything. I believe he retitled his car to someone else and removed me as beneficiary from all asset accts. Is this a truth I have to accept? We have no children, were married for only one year before this all happened.

You need to contact a good estates attorney. If you husband had a will you are still entitled to your "elective share". This is the amount that the spouse is entitled to under New York State law. If he did not have a will then the intestacy laws are in effect and you want an attorney who can protect you. As for assets transferred before he died, that may be a problem but you should bring this to the estate lawyer's attention.
