Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Question about divorce -pending

I would like to know if in the state of New York it is legally ok to live with someone else now that divorce papers have been signed and we( husband and I) are awaiting the judge to sign the papers for the divorce to be legally over?

I would also like to know how long it takes for a divorce to be final after the papers have been signed. His lawyers secretary is saying that it could take up to 7 months for the divorce to be final.

My husband had a lawyer and I did not , we have been separated for just about over 2 years now. We agreed to the children living with me and him having liberal visitation. We also agreed on the child support. We did the year legal separation, which terminated in September of last year. we then signed papers in December for the divorce . This is an uncontested divorce.

Re: Question about divorce -pending

7 Months is not an unreasonable time frame. As long as all the papers are signed, and there are no objections from either party you should feel free to act as an unmarried person.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.
