Legal Question in Family Law in New York
Reimbursement of College Expenses
My stepson is in his second year of college. My husband is responsible to pay a pro-rata share of his expenses. My husbands ex-wife will tend to receive bills for college and not give them to us until just before they are due. She then in turn sends us what she has determined is her pro-rata share and expects us to to handle the rest of the expenses. Nothing is ever discussed as to what food plans, room asignement etc. When my stepson goes to the doctor my husbands ex must furnish us with a bill and proof of payment and we then have 30 days to remit payment to her.Are there similar guidelines regarding secondary college expenses?Sometimes her holding onto the documents cause late payments fees and overnight air charges. We always pay the bills in a timely fasion but are on a budget and it is hard to budget oneself when you are at someones mercy. Do we have a right to request her to furnish with bills and proof of payment in regards to college expenses as well? With the same 30 day grace period?

Re: Reimbursement of College Expenses
Your spouse should have direct access and contact with his child and his child's school, in order to obtain the information he needs concerning his school budget.
The budget for the each term and the entire year can and is largely predetermined.
To wit:
Tuition:
Room & Board:
etc.,
Then spilt in half.
Good luck,
