Legal Question in Family Law in New York

relinquish paternal rights?

i am the father of an child who's mother misled me into believing that she would put the child up for adoption. i have no contact withthe child or with the mother. she has recently informed me that she is going to seek support from me. i am full time college student who has made the choice to not be a parent; are there alternatives to my paying support to a woman to whom i have never had any intention of being a parent with. if so, what form do i fill out to begin the process of separation myself leagally from this situation. i appreiciate you expediant reply.

thank you, cbm

Re: relinquish paternal rights?

Unfortunately, for you, in NY, if you make a baby, you are obligated to pay for it. There are very stiff consequences if you don't pay support. You may not have intended to make a baby, or be a parent at this time in your life, but since it happened, you are legally responsible for the support of that child.
