Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Re-Marriage after a Divorce''

In NY/NJ is there a legal restriction on when someone can re-marry after being granted a divorce? Is there a specified length of time that one ''must'' wait after a divorce is granted?

In New York there is no waiting period. One may re-marry after divorce is official.

Once the divorce is granted- the judgment is signed you can re-marry. As a practical matter however, in order to obtain a marriage license, you need a certified copy of the judgment of divorce.

As a practical matter, the divorce is not official until the judgment of divorce has been signed by the Judge and stamped "ENTERED" by the County Clerk.

Only then can you obtain a certified copy of the judgment, which you may need when you remarry.
