Legal Question in Family Law in New York

Remarried before final divorce

I got remarried before my divorce was final. My ex-huspnads lawyer stated it would be final before i got remarried but it was not. There is a part in my divorce papers that staes ''I will take prior to the entry of final judgement for divorce all steps soley within my power to the best of my knowledge to remove any barrier to the defendent's remarrige'' does this mean i can get remarried before my divorce is final???

Re: Remarried before final divorce

In New York, the Judgment of Divorce must be signed by the Judge and "FILED" with the County Clerk, before it becomes final.

Your lawyer should have made sure that your judgment was signed and filed.

If you wish to discuss this with me privately, please call to schedule a consultation.

I practice in NYC and Long Island.

If you got re-married before your divorce was final, your marriage is void.
